Speed Limit: Drivers Warned About 'New Rules' from November 1.

From November 1, 2024, speed limits of up to 50 km/h will be introduced in all cities of Ukraine.
This was announced by the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky during the telethon 'United News.'
According to Biloshitsky, this is not a change in the Traffic Rules but rather a transition to the 'winter period.' In areas where speed limits were previously allowed to increase to 80 km/h, road signs will be changed to a 50 km/h limit.
'In some cities, particularly in Kyiv and Dnipro, where road conditions and traffic safety allowed, signs with higher speed limits of 80 km/h for the summer period were installed. This period ends, and from November 1, these signs will be changed to standard ones - 50 km/h,' Biloshitsky explained.
Control over compliance with the speed regime is carried out comprehensively: more than 300 cameras automatically record violations, and patrol officers use about 200 TruCAM devices for manual recording.
Biloshitsky noted that millions of violators are brought to justice annually, but the problem of speeding remains relevant. He stressed the need for changes in legislation, in particular, the introduction of penalty points for numerous traffic violations.
'There are violators who commit violations 25 times a year, having numerous fines. In such cases, stricter punishment for the systematic nature of these violations should be applied. Relevant draft laws have been submitted and are currently under consideration,' Biloshitsky added.
