The Roman Catholic bishop named the name that newly elected Popes fear to take.

Newly elected Popes find it difficult to choose the name Peter, the first apostle. There are several reasons for this. This was stated by Vitaliy Kivitsky, head of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr diocese.
It is known that there is a mysterious 'Prophecy of Popes', which states that the last Pope will be 'Peter the Roman'. Vitaliy Kivitsky noted that it would be audacious to choose such a name.
'It would be quite audacious. Moreover, we have already talked about the prophecies according to which the last Pope will be Peter the Roman. Perhaps someone would like to emulate this holy fisherman - the right hand of the Lord, but such a choice of name would cause too much confusion in the life of the church.'
The most popular names among popes are John, Benedict, Pius, Gregory, and Leo. The choice of name is associated with great saints and leaders of the church.
'Surely, each of us has our own role model. The late Pope was a Jesuit who really wanted to emulate Saint Francis - preached obedience, purity, and poverty. And as his story shows, he succeeded in this. In the case of John Paul II, the name of the predecessor was chosen, whose papacy was one of the shortest. This symbolized the desire of the successor to continue the work that the late Pope did not manage to finish.'
Although perhaps, despite the beliefs, the new Pope will choose the name 'Peter'.
Prophecy of Popes
In the famous book by Benedictine Arnold de Viehons, written 400 years ago, the Prophecy of Popes is described, which is based on the visions of Saint Malachy, Archbishop of Armagh. According to this prophecy, 'Peter the Roman' will be the last Pope, and his reign will be accompanied by great calamities and the end of the papacy. This information becomes particularly alarming as among the candidates for the papacy are three cardinals named 'Peter'.
The previous pontiff Francis passed away at the age of 88 after a long illness. The cause of death was a stroke, which occurred against the background of chronic diseases. Before the Pope's death, he had pneumonia, which was discovered in February. During his Time in the hospital, Francis experienced four respiratory crises. Doctors eventually stated that his life was in danger.
According to Francis's will, he was buried in the Roman Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, not in the Vatican, where many previous Popes are buried. In a document published on Monday, he requested that his tomb be simple and without special decorations.
Since Monday morning, thousands of people have passed by the tomb of Pope Francis, who is buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Visitors waited in line long before the basilica opened.
All of this truly prompts thoughts about the choice of a new Pope and his possible name. Who it will be and what name he will choose - time will tell.
