Russians caused fish plague and pollution of the Seim River: ecologists sound the alarm.

In the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, there is a mass die-off of fish and water pollution in the Seim River since August 14. Residents are prohibited from bathing in the river, but the exact cause is not yet determined. Ecologists believe that the deterioration of water quality may be related to active hostilities in the Kursk region but do not rule out the possibility of suffocation. Local residents report that the water has an unpleasant odor, and fish are dying and starting to sink on their own. Authorities are taking measures to collect dead fish and ban bathing in the river. In addition, water and fish studies have been conducted, indicating significant pollution of the river. The threat to the region's environment informs that the water is polluted and may be harmful to human health, but the threat to the Desna and Dnipro rivers has not yet been established.
The Konotop district commission on technogenic and environmental safety issues has imposed a temporary ban on bathing and fishing in the Seim River and using water for household needs in certain areas. Work is also underway to collect dead fish and take all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences of the environmental disaster. All details of the causes and consequences of the pollution of the Seim River are currently being studied.
