The USA blocked the G7's condemnation of Russia's deadly attack on Sumy: reason.

The USA informed its allies in the Group of Seven that it does not support a statement condemning Russia's most deadly attack on Ukraine this year, as it wants to maintain the possibility for negotiations with Moscow.
According to a Bloomberg report, Russia fired two short-range ballistic missiles, one of which was equipped with cluster munitions, at the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine on Palm Sunday when people were attending church services. As a result of the attack, at least 35 people were killed, and 119 were injured, including children, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported.
President Donald Trump's administration explained to its allies that it cannot sign a statement condemning this attack as it is working to preserve space for peace negotiations. This was revealed through diplomatic correspondence, sources indicate.
Canada, which is currently chairing the G7, informed its allies that without US support, it is impossible to develop a statement.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged that it carried out the strike on Sumy and assured that it targeted a meeting of the Ukrainian command in the city, resulting in the deaths of over 60 military personnel.
The draft G7 statement contained a provision that the attack on Sumy is evidence that Russia is intent on continuing the war, Bloomberg reports.
Trump also condemned the attack, calling it 'horrific', but did not clarify that Russia made a mistake. He quickly turned his attention to his predecessor Joe Biden and Zelensky. Trump is actively working on a deal to end Russia's war in Ukraine.
The Russian attack on Sumy occurred two days after a five-hour meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg. The meeting focused on the ceasefire in Ukraine.
Zelensky stated in his daily address to the nation that Kyiv responded positively to Trump's trivial and unconditional ceasefire proposal and to attacks similar to those that occurred in Sumy and Kryvyi Rih, referring to the strike on a children's playground in the southern city, where 20 people were killed earlier this month.
34 days have passed since Trump made his proposal, but Russia continues to attack Ukraine, Zelensky noted. The Ukrainian leader stated that Putin remains active in conducting the war and will continue to do so unless there is serious pressure.
