The UN Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping Operations will take place in Berlin
On May 13-14, the UN Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping Operations will be held in Berlin. The event is initiated by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of Defense in collaboration with the UN. Delegations from over 130 countries, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, will participate in the event.
Discussions on the measures of the international community to ensure peace and security in crisis regions will be an important topic of the conference. Currently, there are over 70,000 peacekeepers from 120 countries working in UN missions worldwide, playing a significant role in the modern world where the number of crises and conflicts is rapidly increasing, according to the German Foreign Minister.
'In a world filled with crises and conflicts, we need UN peacekeeping missions more than ever'
The German Defense Minister also emphasized the importance of supporting UN peacekeeping missions. The total budget for this year is $5.59 billion, making Germany the fourth largest contributor. The conference will discuss the reform of peacekeeping operations, adapting to the needs of partner countries, and improving the perception of peacekeepers to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of UN activities.
