The new legislation, which was passed in the first reading by the Verkhovna Rada, opens the possibility for men aged 60+ to sign contracts for service in the Armed Forces. From now on, these individuals can voluntarily sign a one-year contract if they wish and are in appropriate health. For officers over 60 years old, additional approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces is required.

There is also a two-month trial period provided, and if it turns out that a person cannot cope or is unsuitable for military service, the contract can be terminated.

The authors of the bill are people's deputies who also plan to submit other initiatives to expand the age limits for contract service. These steps are aimed at strengthening national defense and attracting additional resources to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This law will allow pensioners to become more actively involved in defending the country and ensuring security in the state, which is important in challenging times for Ukraine.
