Part of the forces remains in Donbas
The commander of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporizhians, Colonel Oleksandr Okhrimenko, explained that part of the forces, including the brigade command, artillery units, and other units that ensure the fulfillment of tasks, remain in place. The units that arrived for support have less potential and capabilities compared to the combat brigade, which has extensive combat experience.
Okhrimenko explained that it is impossible to withdraw the entire brigade and replace it with other units under such conditions. Part of the forces remains on site, while other units will be replaced in stages after leaves and recovery. The commander also noted that proposals for the phased restoration of the combat capability of the brigade units were provided to the military leadership and were taken into account.
On September 28, Okhrimenko became the new commander of the brigade following the change of the previous commander. A few days later, the General Staff officially announced that Ukrainian military forces had left Vuhledar.
