Climatologist explained why Ukraine is heating up twice as fast as the Southern Hemisphere territories.

The rates of warming in the Arctic are twice as fast as in other regions of the world due to the impact of major agricultural and industrial centers located in the Northern Hemisphere. Pollution from these centers affects the cloud cover. This was stated by Denis Pishnyak, Ph.D. in Geography, who heads the Department of Atmospheric Physics and Geocosmos at the National Antarctic Scientific Center.
According to the expert, in the Southern Hemisphere, which is predominantly covered by oceans, the impact of pollution on the Arctic cloud cover is absent. A feature of the Northern Hemisphere is the concentration of volatile pollutants that affect the cloud cover due to unique geographical conditions.
The expert also noted that the altitude of Antarctica is an additional reason for the heating of the Northern Hemisphere. The thickness of the «atmospheric greenhouse» over Antarctica is one-third less than over the Arctic Ocean in the Arctic.
Earlier, the arrival of cyclone Kirsti, which brought rain and coolness to Ukraine, was forecasted. Also, the Ukrhydrometeorological Center warned about dangerous meteorological phenomena, in particular, thunderstorms and wind gusts in Kyiv and the region.
