Price Dynamics for Basic Food Products in Ukraine
Basic food products are an important component of the consumer basket for Ukrainian families, and any changes in their prices immediately affect the budgets of millions of citizens, media reports say, citing the Ministry of Finance.
For products such as sugar, flour, salt, and pasta, changes in prices directly impact household expenditures across the country as they form the basis of the diet. In May 2025, the Ukrainian food market showed varying price dynamics for these key food products, noting both significant changes and stability in certain segments.
Sugar: Significant Price Decrease
The average price for crystalline sugar in May decreased by 7 kopecks compared to April, amounting to 33.29 UAH per kilogram. The price difference between retail chains was also noticeable: Auchan offers sugar for 29.95 UAH per kilogram, while Megamarket charges 37.30 UAH, and Novus and Metro sell it for 32.99 and 32.90 UAH respectively.
Flour: Stability Without Changes
The prices for flour remained stable, indicating a balance between supply and demand. The average price for wheat flour in May remained the same as in April - 31.39 UAH for a 1 kg package and 54.54 UAH for a 2 kg package.
Salt: Price Increase Continues
The price for sea food salt remained at 37.45 UAH per kilogram. Auchan offers the most favorable price - 35 UAH, while Megamarket charges 39.90 UAH.
Pasta: Decrease After Spring Rise
The average price for pasta products in May decreased by 96 kopecks compared to April, amounting to 35.46 UAH per kilogram. The most affordable prices for pasta are at Metro for 29.90 UAH and at Auchan for 44 UAH.
Overall, the price dynamics for basic food products in Ukraine are diverse, with an unstable market situation for each specific product.
