Vatican: The second day of the election of the Pope has begun
On Thursday, May 8, the second day of the election of the new Pope began in the Vatican. The Cardinals gathered for breakfast around 06:30 before the Mass. Four votes are planned during the day - two in the morning and two in the afternoon.
The first vote will take place at 10:30, the second at 12:00. After lunch, during the next two votes in the Sistine Chapel. It is currently difficult to predict whether white smoke, which signifies the election of a new Pope, will appear at any of the four times.
On Wednesday, there will be only one vote. After that, the Cardinals will be able to vote up to four times a day. Black smoke from the chimney on the roof of the chapel will indicate a failed vote, while white smoke and bells will signal that the church has a new leader.
Currently, Francis has appointed about 80% of the Cardinals participating in the election, opening up chances for someone to continue his liberal policies. The main contenders are considered to be Pietro Parolin and Luis Antonio Tagle.
Let us remind you that the Vatican area is disconnected from mobile communications, and military jammers will be used around the chapel. All mobile phone signals will be disrupted.
